  • They said… the city was over.
  • Crushed under the weight
  • of boarded buildings
  • and silent streets.
  • They…the same ones absent
  • from the stories etched
  • into the soul of the pavement.
  • 9/11.
  • The blackout of ’03.
  • The blizzard of 2010.
  • The very things
  • that remind us
  • that we have lived
  • and lived again
  • under the spotlight
  • of the rising sun.
  • A restless resilience,
  • a spirit that refuses to sleep
  • until we all find home
  • in a smile a warm embrace,
  • or the symphony of
  • clanging pots at 7pm.
  • Citywide elation,
  • gushing forth from windows
  • like uncapped fire hydrants
  • during an endless summer.
  • Where the avenues are
  • flooded with the audacity of hope.
  • Where the bodega remains
  • the beacon in the hood
  • And New York is still
  • the greatest city in the world.
  • They don’t know…
  • that none of these broadways
  • were made to expire.
  • So, may every exhalation
  • be the reason for celebration.
  • The sky was never the limit,
  • We’re only aiming higher.
