New Yorkers are all about the hustle. Work hard and play hard, after all. And figuring out ways to get that hard earned dollar to last more than a NY minute takes some real skill. One great way to stretch a buck is to post-up at some of NYC’s best spots for post-work drinking. Here’s a quick rundown of some great places to avoid running up the tab.
Hill Country Barbecue Market
If you find yourself near Madison Square Park you can get in on some Texa-styles BBQ without the Texas-sized price. This place packs the huge space with a hungry mix of tourists and New Yorkers alike for not one- but two daily happy hours - 5pm to 7pm and again from 10pm to Midnight. Enjoy Shiner on draft or Margaritas for $5, or get a pitcher for the gang for $20 each. PBR, Coors, and Buds are $4 and well drinks go for $6.
The Mermaid Inn
It’s got charm, great seafood, and a happy hour that draws people in for the crowd-pleasing $1 east coast oysters. Daily from 5 to 7pm you’ll enjoy great deals on small bites like fish tacos and shrimp corn dogs too, as well as $5 beers, $7 wines and $8 house cocktails. Oh, and just to sweeten the deal - every Monday happy hour last all night.
Rum is king at this cozy hideaway in the East VIllage. Climb the stairs to discover a little Cuban-inspired paradise along with prices that’ll make you think you’re in Havana. Daily from 5 to 7pm you can try a signature cocktail for $7 and their famed punch bowls for 2 to 5 people are half-price.
No list is complete without a nod to Brooklyn, and Donna is a great spot to gather the gang as the sun sets on another day. Weekdays this Williamsburg favorite becomes even more popular as neighborhood folks fill the space for great food and drink combos. Draft beers pour for just $4 and draft cocktails like their signature Brancolada are just $8. A delicious taco plate will cost you $10 with a beer and $12 if you go with a tasty cocktail. This happy hour last til 8 pm Monday to Friday - with Taco Tuesday extending it til 11!
Seaport Garden Bar
Summer and happy hour go hand in hand, and getting outdoors is the only way to truly embrace both. There’s no better spot to do just that than at the newly opened Garden Bar at the Seaport. Boasting NYC’s largest outdoor space for libations and people watching, this oasis amongst the storied cobblestones has great energy and expansive views. 78-foot of bar space gives you plenty of room to belly up for specialty drinks all summer long too. Enjoy Sixpoint Brewery’s tastemaker series of beers, starting at $8, or splurge on Veuve Clicquot that pours all day long for $22 a glass. The Batanga, at $15, is a must try tequila creation perfect for capping off the work day in style.
